Acceptable Use Policy

TheIdeaWeb prides itself in offering quick, reliable hosting services.  We want to work with our customers to facilitate their growth of their businesses and the success of their web sites. Because of our dedication to providing a stable hosting environment, certain restrictions must be placed on our virtual hosting customers' accounts.

In the interests of the above, the following items or actions are prohibited when using our hosting services:

  • Excessive use of the SMTP or Sendmail services (sending e-mail).  Examples of excessive use would be sending over 500 e-mails per day, or consistently sending e-mails with large (20mb+) attachments.  Mailings sent to a large number of recipients on a regular basis should be sent using the MajorDomo mailing lists features; sending these messages via our normal e-mail system puts an unnecessary strain on our mail server systems.  Large files are better transmitted through FTP or web-based downloads.
  • Any use of our e-mail services (POP, SMTP, or Sendmail) to send (or receive reply to) unsolicited commercial e-mail (aka- spam).  Customers that allow any aspect of their hosting service to be used for or facilitate the use or delivery of unsolicited commercial e-mail will have their accounts immediately suspended, forfeiting all monies paid.  Such accounts will be subject to additional charges for damages (determined at the sole discretion of TheIdeaWeb), and may be held liable for any consequences of this prohibited use of our services.
  • Applications or content deemed to be likely to far exceed monthly bandwidth allotments.  Special consideration may be made to customers that agree to pay for bandwidth excess in advance.
  • CGI, PHP, and other server side programs that make excessive (determined at TheIdeaWeb's sole discretion) of the server CPU or memory.  If a program is deemed to be making excessive use of resources, the account holder will be notified to remove the program; programs that are disrupting other customers' service may be be subject to immediate removal, with no backup made.

The following content types may not be kept in your web space, or sent via your e-mail services while using TheIdeaWeb:

  • Adult natured entertainment content, materials, messages, or advertisements.
  • MP3's or other copyrighted multimedia materials (without prior permission).
  • Copyrighted downloadable software.
  • Any other material copyrighted, trademarked, or otherwise the intellectual property of any third party.
  • Content, materials, messages, or advertisements that encourage, facilitate, or allow the communication or implementation of hate crimes, feelings, or idealisms.

Exceptions to the policy regarding downloadable materials may be made for companies distributing their own products or works; written permission must be received for these exceptions.

If you have any questions about these policies, please feel free to contact technical support.
